THE POWER OF SARCASM

It’s Saturday night here in Rabbit Land. My spouse Technogeek has gone to the batting cage with Gungaboy. Yes, my husband is spending Saturday night at a place called “Funtasia” with a gay man, playing with balls. It’s probably best not to dwell on that too much, don’t you think?

So I’ve turned on the TV to see “The Power of Intention, with Wayne Dyer.” But I haven’t seen any of it, because the PBS beg-a-thon has been on continuously. In fact, I suspect PBS never shows programs at all. They just ask for money while talking about the great programs they would show if they ever had enough money.

So I can’t tell you what Wayne Dyer is all about, but from the blathering I’ve concluded that he’s Spiritual. And chock full of Intention.

Today I Intended to go to Costco and buy juice boxes, toilet paper, and other things we use in large quantities. I also Intended to finish a book review I was halfway through. I’m happy to report that I did both of those things, and I did them well. Evidence: Even though there were 150 million glassy-eyed over-fed individuals racing through Costco to load up on lemon-poppyseed-muffins-the-size-of-Rhode-Island, and every single one of them seemed to Intend to crush my 4-year-old between their over-fed bodies or to roll their muffin-laden carts right over her, I made my purchases and escaped with both children intact and unharmed.

Well, now Wayne Dyer is actually on TV, and he’s telling a story I’ve encountered on the internet about a disabled boy playing baseball. The camera lingered on a woman in the audience with a single tear rolling down her face. Perhaps she was crying tears of joy because PBS actually aired a program.

The book I reviewed today was “The Bitch Posse,” by Momwriter Martha O’Connor. (Momwriters is a listserv for writers who are moms.) I can’t post my review, but I’ll link to it when it’s online. For now I’ll just tell you that T. Rabbit gives it 3.5 out of 4 carrots.

Well, Wayne Dyer is now manning the phones at PBS and yakking with the beg-a-thon dude about using the Power to Intend to send money to PBS. And in case you were wondering, the disabled boy in the story hit the winning home run, as he does every time I hear the story, because he was put on Earth by God to teach the rest of the kids on the team how to be better human beings. Why this should be the boy’s job, I don’t know. Why doesn’t he get to be one of the regular human schlubs?

Also, I wonder what would happen if Wayne Intended to have more hair?

  1. Wayne has been around for decades… he used to be Dr. Phil and Oprah combined. I haven’t seen him in years, but it appears (from what you say) that he hasn’t yet discovered Rogaine!

  2. Yes the evil clutches have even reached into PBS.  But congrats on surviving Costco.  I need to make a trek there myself once I clear room on the shelves.  I got some great t-shirts there a couple months ago. I suppose by now they’ll have long underware out.

  3. First paragraph = Thanks for the warning. I’ll stay away from PBS for now especially if they have Dyer. Something about getting wealthy by “inspirational” stories of others that bugs me. RYC: For my rice.. not really a secret. I just sauté minced onion and garlic in a bit of oil before adding the rice and cooking it.

  4. I think those ‘intentional’ people only have ‘intentions’ on getting other people’s money. All the good intentions in the world won’t substitute for a lot of hard work and a little bit of good luck. You’d think with all the other people’s money Dyer has to have earn by now, he could at least by a toupee.

  5. Intentions are great if it benefits the good of all.  I do see where you are coming from.  Oh, great comment on my post.  I like the way you think.

  6. How do you like that book? I read it over the weekend and thought it was awesome!
RYC: THE CRAWFISH: I don’t eat them… they smell bad to me! Crawfish quiche would be a unique dish!

  7. So how does Technogeek feel about you lusting after Wayne Dyer? lol RYC; naw, I don’t want to sick the kitty on the trolls, I keep the trolls around to laugh at and make fun of.
